September is National Yoga Month

Do you know what National Yoga Month is? This national campaign encourages people to partake in yoga activities, a healthy lifestyle, and natural wellness.

Yoga has been practiced for more than 5,000 years as a natural technique that helps focus the mind and body. Yoga has many benefits, such as increased strength, improved flexibility, better breathing capacity, and reduced stress levels. If you’re new to yoga and want to reap the many benefits of natural wellness (this National Yoga Month or year-round), you can try one or more of these seven beginner-to-intermediate poses:

Child’s Pose

This is an excellent pose for quieting the mind and giving your body time to relax. It can decrease stress levels, relax your neck, arms, and upper back. It may also ease lower back pain.

Downward Facing Dog

A natural backbend that helps open up the chest and shoulders. It can stimulate your kidneys and groin, release tension in your lower back while also toning your arms. Downward Facing Dog pose also can increase hip and hamstring flexibility.

Tree Pose

This natural balance pose helps you focus on your breathing, and it can strengthen the ankles, legs, toes, and knees. It also increases upper body strength while helping to improve your standing posture.

Half Boat Pose

This balance-focused pose helps to stimulate the abdominal organs and strengthen your arms, thighs, hips, calves. It may also improve digestion while releasing tension in your neck and shoulders. This is great for toning your abdominal muscles and building your natural sense of balance. If you’re flexible and feeling adventurous, you can try the more intermediate Full Boat Pose, which has you extending your legs straight while in the same position as the Half Boat Pose.

Triangle Pose

This beginning-intermediate pose tones your waist and may even aid you in losing body fat. It is particularly great for stretching and loosening up your inner thighs and groin. Triangle Pose is another great way to help build your balance.

Cobra Pose is particularly interesting in that it may enhance your focus while improving cardiovascular capacity.
