An Introduction To CBN (Cannabinol)

CBN Is A Relative Newcomer To Plant-Based Medicine

CBN is a common and increasingly studied cannabinoid. It’s often found in lower quantities than THC in the cannabis plant, but it has a wide range of potential medical applications. CBN may be used to treat insomnia, appetite loss, chronic pain, and more. This blog post will go over what cannabinol is and how you can use it for your own health needs.

What Is Cannabinol?

CBN is a natural cannabinoid that’s often found in plants such as hemp and cannabis (used for marijuana consumption). CBN affects the body when it interacts with our endocannabinoid system, which regulates sleep and appetite, among other things. It occurs naturally from the exterior oxidation of THC. What does that mean?

When THC degrades, it becomes CBN, which means it has often been overlooked until more recently. It was frequently disregarded as a byproduct of marijuana that had gone stale. However, we now realize that CBN has a plethora of benefits. Some of these benefits are similar to CBD, but others are more unique to it.

CBN and CBD vary in a few ways. CBN may be more specialized in helping with sleep issues.

Why Do People Use CBN?

Some people use CBN because it’s natural and doesn’t have the same side effects as THC. Some strains of marijuana that are high in CBN may not be very intoxicating at all.

CBN may also help reduce inflammation, act as a mild sedative, and relieve pain, making it popular among those who deal with chronic illnesses like Crohn’s disease or cancer.

Cannabinol As A Sleep Aid

CBN is often used to promote restful sleep due to its calming effect on your body while possibly providing relief for insomnia. It acts slightly differently than CBD when you’re trying to fall asleep, mainly in that it may be more specialized in this regard. CBN is known for its sedative component and may act as an alternative for some prescription sleep medications. Studies indicate that it may be a powerful option for those who have insomnia or chronic sleep issues. In fact, one of the primary reasons people use CBN is to treat insomnia. It is also thought to be synergistic with CBD in regards to helping you fall asleep.

Appetite Booster

Another primary reason many people are beginning to use CBN is its potential to increase appetite. CBN has been shown to increase appetite in some studies due to its effect on CB1 receptors, which are a part of your body’s endocannabinoid system, or ECS. In addition, the study showed it increased the ability to eat larger portions and more often. Thus, CBN may prove to have great potential for those with eating disorders or those whose appetite might be affected by another condition.

What Are The Benefits Of Using CBN (Cannabinol) Vs. CBD

CBN may potentially be a more potent sleep aid and appetite stimulant, whereas CBD does not quite as distinct effects. Its sedative effects are more noteworthy than CBD’s impacts in this realm.

CBN is said to be mildly psychoactive, but only at a mere fraction of THC. This means it would be quite unlikely a CBN user would feel mentally much different or high at all after using it. If you are concerned about drug testing, be sure to read our blog on that topic here.

Both CBD and CBN are cannabinoids derived from the natural terpenes in the hemp plant. They interact with your brain’s endocannabinoid receptors and may be used to treat similar issues.
