One of the most recent and popular ways to help destress is by attempting to approach the situation differently. One of these techniques is called mindfulness. Mindfulness is the process of becoming fully aware and present in your current situation. It involves not overreacting to stimuli around us. Those regular, everyday stimuli frequently overwhelm us and cause us stress. The key is to not let these events control our wellbeing.

Seated Or Walking Mindfulness

Yes, that’s right. Seated or walking mindfulness. Different from more traditional forms of meditation, mindfulness can take place just about anywhere. All you’ll need to do is find a place where you won’t be bothered by many sounds. If you think you can go on a walk where it’ll mostly be quiet, this is a fine choice too.

Brief Pauses In Whatever You Are Presently Doing

While we recommend finding a place to be seated or somewhere you can walk quietly, this is not necessarily a must-have type of situation. You can stop whatever you are doing and take a few deep breaths and really try to notice what you are feeling. Focus on what you are thinking about that moment and why. 

How To Begin A Basic Mindfulness Session

Find your “happy” spot or one of the above-mentioned spots to begin your mindfulness session. Begin to notice how your legs and feet are feeling right at that moment in time. Are they stiff, hot, cold, or relaxed? What position are they in? Do they both feel the same? This is your first step into mindfulness.Danu mindfulness at home

Begin to work your way to your upper body and head. How are you feeling today body-wise? Sick or well? Are you taking shallow or deep breaths? Make sure your arms are resting evenly on your lap so you can get a good idea of how they are feeling. Is your posture good or are you slouching? These are all things to try to notice at this stage. 

After you’ve recognized how your physical being is feeling, move onto your mental wellbeing. What are your current thoughts drifting towards? Are they negative, positive, or neutral? Trying to step back and notice your feelings is a great way to begin detaching your emotions from stressful situations. By recognizing what’s going on with your body and feelings, you can begin to separate the stress from your being.
