CBD And Eczema: How It Might Help With Rashes

Could CBD Aid With Eczema?

Eczema is a rash that can cover the whole body. The symptoms of Eczema are dry, scaly skin and an inflamed, red appearance. There are many different types of Eczema, but atopic dermatitis is the most common form. Atopic dermatitis often starts in infancy and continues into adulthood. There’s no cure for Eczema, but treatments are available to lessen the symptoms, so it’s not as uncomfortable to live with long-term. CBD has shown some promise when used topically on eczematous skin conditions because it helps relieve pain and reduce inflammation.

What Is Eczema?

Eczema is a skin condition that causes the skin to be dry, itchy, and inflamed. It most often appears on the face, hands, or feet but can appear anywhere on your body. There are numerous types of Eczema, such as atopic dermatitis (caused by allergies), nummular dermatitis (round patches), dyshidrotic Eczema (blisters in small groups between fingers and toes).

What Is The Prognosis?

Presently, there is no cure for Eczema. However, you may be able to control it using moisturizers and corticosteroids prescribed by your doctor or dermatologist. If you have severe atopic dermatitis, you might need to see a specialist known as an allergist/immunologist who will help identify what triggers your symptoms to prescribe specific treatments for them. CBD may be a great alternative to steroid treatments and is a more natural option.

CBD May Help With Eczema And Other Rashes

Some people have had success using CBD topically for Eczema and other rashes. In most cases, you would want a cream made with pure broad-spectrum CBD extract because they’re free from THC content which can cause psychoactive effects.

The key to potentially receiving benefits for Eczema from CBD oil is found within the CBD itself. Cannabidiol (also commonly known as CBD) is a type of cannabinoid extracted from a specific variety of cannabis Sativa plants, also known more commonly as hemp. Your body produces its own cannabinoids for a variety of purposes, and these are called endocannabinoids. Your endocannabinoid system is also equipped to process and receive benefits from plant-based cannabinoids like CBD. Cannabidiol may be able to relieve itching, inflammation, and pain issues, which are all common among those living with Eczema.

Is It Safe To Use Topically?

There is little risk in using CBD for Eczema, and research so far indicates that topical CBD use is typically safe. Broad-spectrum CBD has no psychoactive effects. Therefore, it is generally safe for most people, but if you are sensitive to hemp or cannabis plant extracts, it’s always best to do a spot test before applying the cream all over your body.
