What You Need To Know About Crohn’s Disease

Crohn’s Disease is an inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation in the digestive tract. It can affect a number of different areas, including the stomach and small intestine. Many people with Crohn’s experience severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weight loss as a result of their condition. This blog will discuss what Crohn’s Disease is, how it affects the body, and treatments available to help manage this condition. Let’s jump into a little bit about what this condition actually is.

What Is Crohn’s Disease?

Crohn’s is a disease that causes inflammation in the digestive tract, leading to abdominal pain and diarrhea. Crohn’s Disease affects men and women equally. It can be diagnosed at any age but typically begins between the ages of 15-30 years old for children or young adults.

What Causes Crohn’s?

The cause of this condition has not been identified yet. However, some experts believe it may be caused by an overactive immune response due to issues with genes or bacteria in the gut microbiome. This means there are potentially certain foods that make symptoms worse.

How Does Crohn’s Affect The Body?

This chronic inflammatory bowel disease mainly affects two parts of your body: firstly, when you have ulcers in the intestinal lining, it can cause intense abdominal pain. Secondly, inflammation in your digestive tract means that you’re not absorbing certain nutrients from what you eat – so this could result in weight loss.

Symptoms Of Crohn’s Disease

What Are The Symptoms Of Crohn’s Disease? There are several symptoms present with people who experience Crohn’s Disease: these include severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, cramping, or tenderness to touch near the area where there is ulceration or irritation on the bowel wall.

How Does A Person With Crohn’s Disease Feel?

Crohn’s Disease can be a debilitating condition – people who experience it often have to deal with severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, cramping, or tenderness. But, perhaps an often overlooked component of having Crohn’s Disease is the mental piece. People with this condition often feel sadness in not being able to enjoy many different types of foods their friends and family are eating. This can lead to anxiety, stress, and sometimes a sense of isolation.

Treatment For Crohn’s Disease

There are many different types of treatment that you may go through if you’re diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. Medications include things such as corticosteroids which help reduce inflammation in your body. Antibiotics are also used to control any infections from occurring because of an irritable gut lining or ulceration.

CBD As A Potential Treatment

CBD, a type of cannabinoid also known as cannabidiol, has been showing promise for many people in helping to treat the particularly painful symptoms of Crohn’s Disease. Some individuals choose to mix CBD with THC, but this is not necessarily a must when it comes to using cannabinoids to treat this condition. Because CBD works on your body’s endocannabinoid system receptors in the gut to reduce inflammation, many find relief from swollen and painful intestines. When the intestines are less swollen, they are better able to absorb nutrients and are less likely to trigger painful diarrhea. CBD products taken orally, such as CBD Oil Tinctures or CBD Softgels, are recommended for potentially relieving pain. Particularly, CBD Softgels have more of an ability to reach the gut and, therefore, may be more effective.
