Can CBD Help With PTSD Symptoms?

What is PTSD?

In order to begin to understand how CBD may interact and potentially provide some relief for PTSD, it’s important to understand what exactly PTSD is and what it’s not.

Different from trauma, PTSD, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is unique because the length and severity of the symptoms experienced are often much greater. These symptoms can have long-lasting effects on one’s personal and professional life.

Symptoms of PTSD go far beyond merely feeling down or stressed out, and can include flashbacks, intense anxiety, uncontrolled thoughts, and even nightmares. Many individuals suffering from PTSD have difficulty getting along in society because of these symptoms, especially if they are regular. Effects can last for weeks, months, or years.

How can CBD potentially help?

PTSD is a complex and serious mental health issue that should not be taken lightly. Each individual may experience different symptoms and levels of severity. If you think you or a loved one may have symptoms of PTSD, it is crucial that you speak with your health care professional about treatment. At Danu, your health and wellness are extremely important to us and we want you to seek professional medical help if it is necessary.

While CBD may not be able to directly help to reverse PTSD symptoms and eliminate the root cause, it may possibly be able to help alleviate many of the symptoms that are commonly associated with the disorder.

Sleep

There is growing research that shows CBD may potentially assist with improving sleep. In one study on CBD and sleep, nearly 67%% of patients reported being able to sleep better after one month of using just 25mg of CBD a day. Additional research shows that CBD may even be able to improve the REM sleep cycles of individuals with Parkinson’s disease. CBD Softgel capsules may be extremely beneficial alongside counseling in reducing PTSD symptoms. CBD Topicals may assist with sleep as well. Stress

Feeling anxious about past or current events is a normal part of our lives from time to time. However, PTSD can make these anxious feelings unbearable. It can make it hard to cope with everyday life when going through severe stress. In the same study as listed above, nearly 80% of patients who received 25mg of CBD per day for a month reported that they had lowered anxiety levels. Memories

Both human memory and anxiety functions can be affected by the endocannabinoid system. This system is responsible for responding to CBD with its CB1 and CB2 receptors. According to a 2016 study, the endocannabinoid system can be stimulated by cannabinoids to help reduce the negative effects of traumatic memory formation.
