Conversely, I often find myself excelling at tasks that others might find complex. This disparity means I sometimes need additional support with seemingly simple tasks until I can grasp and manage them on my own.

I let them know about my processing style so that they’re aware it might take me a moment longer to respond. This openness has encouraged a supportive work environment and has minimized any potential miscommunication or frustration.

Additionally, I use strategies like note-taking or asking for key points in written form when possible, which aids in my processing and ensures I have a clear understanding of the tasks at hand.

These experiences can be deeply painful, as misunderstandings based on communication styles lead to genuine heartache.

However, there are also incredibly positive aspects that have emerged from my neurodivergence. For instance, it has played a crucial role in shaping my personal relationships, particularly with my partner. We understand each other well and share a comfortable, harmonious life together. This understanding and acceptance are invaluable.

Additionally, I’ve found a workplace that not only accepts but appreciates my unique traits, which has been incredibly affirming. And while I may have only a couple of friends, these friendships are deeply meaningful and supportive.

“Many refer to autism or ASD1 as a superpower. While I don’t necessarily view myself as having a superpower, I do feel that my neurodivergence allows me to connect with others on unique levels and gives me a distinct way of engaging with the world around me.

The most remarkable aspect of having ASD1 and ADHD is my ability to hyperfocus. When something captures my interest, I delve deeply into it, learning everything I can about the subject. This intense focus makes me something of a ‘jack of all trades’ in areas that capture my attention. This trait was instrumental when I quickly learned about budtending and herbalism.

My ability to focus intensely and absorb vast amounts of information allowed me to excel in these fields rapidly. It’s incredibly empowering to know that I can pursue and succeed in any interest that I commit to.

This aspect of my neurodivergence isn’t just a skill—it’s a part of who I am that I truly value. It makes my learning and exploration deeply satisfying and fruitful, opening up endless possibilities for both personal growth and professional development.
