Putting The Nature Back In Natural Wellness

Can Nature Itself Improve Your Natural Wellness?

Many people today are talking about natural wellness. But, what does natural wellness mean? It’s a lifestyle that encompasses natural living, natural foods, and more. But what exactly is the connection between natural wellness and nature? How can time spent in nature help support your state of natural wellness? In this blog post, we will explore how spending time outdoors can improve physical and mental health, as well as other benefits of outdoor activities.

Spending Time Outdoors Can Improve Your Physical Health

Perhaps one of the most significant physical benefits you can gain from spending some time in nature is its stress-reducing ability. Being surrounded by a beautiful natural setting such as rivers, mountains, or a hiking trail has been shown to release endorphins. This natural “high” has been shown to reduce stress and improve mood. Lower stress levels mean that your body is less likely to produce harmful hormones like cortisol. Cortisol is a known culprit when it comes to a myriad of physical conditions like heart disease and high blood pressure.

Another physical benefit of spending time outdoors is the increased exposure to natural light, which can increase your vitamin D levels. This natural sunlight benefits you not only physically but also mentally by reducing the risk of depression or seasonal affective disorder (SAD) that some people experience in winter due to a lack of natural sunlight.

Spending Time Outdoors Can Improve Your Mental Health

Spending time in nature can improve your state of natural wellness and boost your endorphin and serotonin production.

If it’s one thing we can agree on this year, it would be that everyone needs a break from technology, social media, and other stress-inducing activities you won’t find in nature. As social media and technology have become increasingly addictive and time-consuming, many people find it’s making them less happy. Spending time outdoors has the natural effect of reducing stress, resulting in a more joyful mood. It’s one thing to read about how nature makes us happy; it’s another to experience natural happiness first-hand. (Yes, we understand the irony of writing a blog about spending time in nature!)

Outdoor Activities To Improve Your Natural Wellness

So if spending time outside is so beneficial for our natural wellness, what are some ways that we can incorporate outdoor activities into our day? One idea would be committing an hour each week to spend alone outside with no electronic devices or other distractions. Doing this will give you ample opportunity for reflection and may even help reduce social media addiction down the road.

Outdoor activities such as walking or hiking may be just what you need for mental health. The reason being that it’s a form of exercise with many benefits, including helping clear your mind after stressful days at work, increase serotonin production, and may even help ward off Alzheimer’s disease in older adults.
